Recently, I've been accused of beginning threads the average guy would not be interested in except it they were Gay. Weel, Here is one that should spark some comments from the average and not so average. So lets hear what you'v got to say.

As for my view - Iraq is a country created at the end of World War 1 as a buffer between Turkey (the old Ottoman Empire_ and Iran (the old Persian Empire). It could have been easily been divided in half with part going to Iran and the other part to Turkey. However, its importance was and still is oil.


The conflict between the Sunni and Shia Moslems in Iraq has always existed and was strenghtened but Otttoman policies towards both religions. The Ottoman Empire was Sunni so they gave political power to the Sunni part of the population. However, the Shia part of the population was more numerous. Whether we like it or not, Iraq, with or without our intervention would have become a powder keg with the rise of Shia conservatism is Iran, who has always wanted to regan what they lost to the Ottoman Empire so long ago.

From myh point of view, the best solution would be to partition the county into a Shia section, Kurdish section and Sunni section. The reason for a Kurdish section is because with the breakup of the Ottoman Empire, the Kurds in the north asked that they be given a national homeland but were denied and now is the time to correct that situation, even if it angers Turkey.

We're in Iraq because of our POTUS's vanity and stupidity..
The only answer to getting out ,to me, is simple..
Leave, let them fight it out like they have been for thousands
of years, then go in and kick the winner's ass if they even threatened any other country!

Oh people, Iran is supplied with arms by Russia. Russia has also helped them out with developing nuclear technology. They don't need a army Doc. All they need is some chemicals and a way to dispurse it and we will have a nice little scene of death. I have seen chemical weapons use first hand when I was in the first gulf war. Some of these chemicals that are out there if you placed a dixie cup worth in a room that's 100x100 ft you will kill everyone within 2-5mins. and that same dixie cup if dispursed via air or explosive could kill thousands on a day with traffic in NYC.

There is definitely a threat and I personally don't think it's nuclear right now its more chemical. Plus it's politics Russia or China would probably love to be the ones pressuring us but why when they can get a pee on country like Iran to do it for them with no risk to themselves. Who's economy and lifestyles that will suffer....? Ours and Irans/Iraq. Russia and China are starting to prosper and we are loosing our grip and we better open our eyes.

I hate to say it but we are overdue a World War and I just hope it doesn't occur when myself or my children are alive. But it is coming. Sometimes strength is what a nation needs and we need to be that strength to keep nations in check from trying to test us.

D1 you are in error - The US supplied the Iranians with the technology when it was ruled by the Shah, when Iran was friendly to the West. That changed with the fall of his government. The Russians are willing to supply the Iranians with the raw materials to make their reactors work. The problem is the breeder reactor - once you have those you can make weapons grade nuclear material.

But why are we in Iraq? It's our nations interest to be. Our nation runs on oil period without it we go to war! If all the OPEC nations said fuck you America get your oil some where else. I can almost guarantee we would go to war. The people would almost demand it especially when oil prices go to $7-10 per gal our economy would crumble. So we do need to show some type of presense in this area.

Like I said before we have a threat on the rise but it is hidden and no one wants to tell anyone that it is there. We are being pinched every day for $$$. We have plenty of oil available to us in our own country yet we fail to use it.

All wars are about power and station. What more power could you have if you can control all the oil to a country, that without it your country will no longer function.

Plain and simple "THE OIL" and we should. We don't have the means or the technology to switch fuels anytime soon. We probably have at the least 20-40 more years until alternate fuels become a part of our everyday life. The oil companies make way too much money to have that disappear.

I'm not convinced on the oil theory. If that were true Uncle George would be having our military surround the oil feilds in Iraq. He would also be paying his buddie Hugo Chavez a visit.

I do think Sadam had some nasty shit hiding some where, our intel just fucked up and we waited to long to go in and get it.

We need to get the media out of Iraq and let our Special Forces go in and clean the place up- no questions asked! I would imagine it wouldn't take them very long. I know they are there, thay just have to go up the chain of command to do anything, by time they get the OK the target of opportunity is gone.....
