Global Settings these are board wide and work for every page on the site. I will just list each option and what they do below:
Users can contact me by email
This allows people to send you email to your email address on file.
Administrators can email me information
Now why would ever want to disable getting email from me
but you can disable it here. But if I need to send something I can override it anyway ah nice being the 
Allow users to send you private messages
This just blocks users from sending you PM's this doesn't stop the system or staff from sending you some.
Hide my online status
This will block you from showing up in the 'Who is Online' listing at the bottom of the main forum page. I can over ride this if too many people start using it. This is a community site why would you want to hide....?
Notify me on new private messages
This disables the feature of sending you a email when you receive a PM on adult-chitchat.com.
Pop up window on new private message
This is enabled by default and it is a small popup window that appears when you are online and you receive a PM. You can turn this off and then you will just need to pay attention to the 'User Control Panel (0 new messages)' link at the top of the page. Also if you have a popup blocker it will probably block this small window so if you are not getting it you know why.
My language
This is the only selection right now until I can install more language packs to the forums.
My Timezone
Set your timezone where you live to help get accurate time in the forums.
Summer Time/DST is in effect
Depending on the time of the year you may need to enable this to get the correct time.
My date format
This is how the date/time is displayed. This is customizable so have fun.

The display section mainly covers the forums and blog sections. It is just settings mainly for experience and displaying items. Generally the defaults are all you need by you can turn items on/off to get what you like best. Remember if you are missing things like signatures, avatars and smilies this will be the first place you should check.

These are the same options you would see in every post that you make. at the bottom of every post you are writing you will see some similar sections like below. These are just global settings which are always on/off.
Enable BBCode by default
In your posting window all of the small buttons like video, album, quote, code, etc... are either disabled or enabled. When they are disable you won't get the benefits of there formatting. For your ease of use always keep them on.
Enable Smilies by default
If you disable this option if you select a smilie it will show up as a code and not as the smilie itself when posted.
Attach my signature by default
This will either always attach your signature to your posts or it will not and then you will have to manually add it (you will see the option at the bottom of the post window).
Notify me upon replies by default
You should probably always keep this off or you will get a lot of PM/Emails when ever someone responds to a post you made. It is better you select this option whenever you are posting something important to you.
You can select all these options from the bottom of the post window to over ride these sections. The section looks like this:
