Property Taxes

Indiana is facing a property tax crises. It is the biggest issue this year and the government is looking for alternatives from raising income taxes and/or sales tax to decrease or do away with propery tax.

I was just curious to other states situations.

New Hampshire is a tax free state and everything is in our property taxes so they get quite high. It has been an issue here for 10-20yrs. People don't want an income tax so property taxes are what goes up. We do have taxes on gas and entertainment but that's about it. I know some people that pay in upwards of $6-10,000 per year in property taxes.

Taxes!

Here in Missouri, we have city tax, county tax and state tax. It seems every one wants into your
wallet! In our city tax we have a Johnson grass tax, it's for the eradication of of a wild grass that I haven't seen
yet! :lol:

D1............yeah I can see how they would be high. Indiana's thinking would be just the opposite............all sales or income tax and no property tax. Is NH looking to put a cap on the property tax?

And yes, Dano, we have all of those taxes too and it drives me insane. I am being taxed out of existance.

we mainly have g.s.t tax here of 10% on everything.(goods n services tax)

it sucks in someways cos if a vehicle is made new,the government charge g.s.t on the sale price,but every other time that same vehicle is re-sold in its lifetime,they score another 10% of each sale price,to me that is double-dipping. :evil:

They can't put a cap on it because the state wouldn't get money because the people won't pass a bill for taxes. I would say the average tax is $20+ per $1000 of overall property value. So if you house cost $250k (which is roughly the average house cost here) you would pay on average $5000.

i'm not sure what our property taxes stuff is,but have some close friends in real estate,I'll ask and get back to you on that one.
