Girls and wrestling controversy

Postby DarkOne on March 12 2008, 06:44 AM

It has been starting to become a big topic.

On the boy side: If he is to hard with her and or hurts her he is bashed and made to look bad. But on the other hand if he looses he is the biggest puss and will get slack from the guys at school for weeks. You also have the people watching you to see if your grabbing her correctly etc...

On the girl side: There is hardly any all girl wrestling programs so they must wrestle with guys. You have plenty of wrestling moves where you grab the crotch area... so are you ready to watch your daughter grabbing a package. The boys more than likely have been taught not to hurt a girl so they will hold back and either loose or not give it there all, so it might make the girl think she is better than she thinks.

There was a story the other day where the state championship came down to a match between a boy and a girl. The boy declined the match and walked away. Why? Because of what was stated above.... what if he did loose... it would get plastered all over the papers and the grief would be horrible for the guy. Or the other route what if he hurt her? The girl on the other hand has everything to gain. If she wins it's an amazing feat or if she looses she is still praised for getting as far as she did because she is a girl.

What are your thoughts......?

Personally if it was my daughter I would tell her to go for it she really does have nothing to loose playing against guys. But I would warn her she won't get an sympathy from me if she gets hurt because she does know that you can get hurt and people are trying to win and won't hold back. On the other hand if my son lost it would be hard for me never mind him. I would cut him down he would get enough of that at school. But I would tell him before the match to treat her like a boy and kick there ass. :)

as far as a wrestling match goes, that guy did the right thing the way I see it.
it would have looked bad a guy beating up on a woman,it happens too much these days with-out it being excused with;but it was only sport.
he made a wise decision.
even if I don't mind the odd wrestle with a certain good lookin sheila I happen to know.

But why?

Woman no all to well that they could get hurt. But unfortunetly for them boys are generally raised not to hurt women. So how can we have this equality factor if women are still treated different on the wrestling mat. Is it fair for that boy that walked away?? He had to turn down winning the state championship because he didn't want to wrestle a girl.

Yes I would have been proud of my son if he did that. But he shouldn't have to do it.

Today's society is messed up with both sexes trying to impeed on each others activities. I am not saying that the should always be seperated but in some sports maybe they should? I would feel a bit uncomfortable watching my daughter wrestle.... i would be looking to see if the boy was minding himself and watching my daughter to she if she was coping a feel :)

When my son was in grade school he was on the wrestling team, I had hoped he would gain confidence by doing it. During one wrestling meet where one team showed up with a girl on their team and my son had to wrestle her. He came to me and said what am I suppose to do? I had taught my son not to hit girls........lol I asked him if he planned on going against the rules to hurt her. He said no. and i said then wrestle her and pretend she is a boy. Do i think it was right? Yep if your going to allow your daughter to wrestle she knows what may happen. Would i let my daughter wrestle.........nope cause at that age she would have hurt someone seriously......... :D

Its hard to teach your son how to respect and treat a woman like a lady if she is out there wrestling, but I don't believe a girl..........just because she is a girl..........should be told she can't do something. I would just like to see that all schools have a girls team and a boys team seperate.......
