I admit I could stand to lose a few pounds.....like 40....to meet what the FDA says is ideal for my height and body type. I looked at that target weight thinking that I had actually been 20lbs lighter than that when I got married. Then again I was much more active than I am now, I used to love to run long distance, go to the gym and what not (strange how marriage just took all that right out of me) and even being 20lbs lighter than my ideal weight, I thought I looked good. I had good muscle tone, long athletic type muscle build and a pretty descent six pack. I could run 2 miles in under 13 minutes and on a regular basis ran 10 to 11 miles at a slower pace. I never wanted to look like Arnold, I wanted the endurance and stamina.
While I realize that I'll never be at that peak again I thought I should at least try to get into better shape. My ideal weight is 160, currently I'm 195 but at the beginning if the year when I started my weight loss I was 210. Up until now I just changed my eating habits. I began to eat until I was "satisfied" rather than "full" or "over full" I lost the first 15lbs until about 2 weeks ago when I leveled out. I now need to add in regular exercise to try and break through to continue the loss.
It is generally when people hit this plateau during dieting and the weight loss stops, they give up. This plateau is your body adapting to the new life style and you have to shock it into continued weight loss.
So have added walking into my program slowly evolving into jogging due to not wanting to get shin splints too badly like I did a few years ago. I currently do 95% walk to 5% jog for about 40 minutes each day with a weekend (saturday/sunday) rest period to hopefully prevent shin splints.
Who else out there is getting or is in shape, and what do you do?
Any suggestions for me? Please share your experiences.
