Blogs and input on them

Postby DarkOne on March 26 2008, 07:33 AM

Hey Everyone

Besides a small issue that has come up the past few days (devs are working on a fix) the blogs been working good.

I just want some feedback on something so I can nail it down and no one gets their feathers ruffled if I remove something.

What should be the criteria for removing a blog....? I just want a rough idea what people think.

Here is a brief list of why they would be removed (my opinion):

1. No comments in them for more than 14 days. So if you want to keep it going make another post.
2. Personally I thought blogging was for content/thoughts/opinions. A general bullshit blog where people chit chating about nothing special should be done in the forums.
3. People spamming websites and or ads will be deleted.
4. And of course if someone is still breaking the rules after being warned the blog will be deleted.

Generally my thoughts on blogs are to just teach/express feelings and knowledge about a particular subject or incident. I have read many blogs in my surfing and some were very well done and you felt happy, sad, mad or smarter after reading them. Plus it my case here it is first impressions :) I love reading blogs about peoples personal successes and struggles.

But have fun this is only a opinion thread so I get an overall sense for what people want the blogging to be.

Thanks Everyone

This is just my opinion.....I dont think blogs should be deleted.......if there is room to hold them.......it seems and i think that there is only so many that will show up and if you want to see others you either need to click random or maybe you can access by author........im still working on that LOL

ok i fibbed i do believe some blogs need to be deleted......
1. ones that are delibertly posted to cause a fight
2. scamming or advertisements for a different website
3. wanna fucks/or this is what i am looking for
4. blog that targets a member in a negative way
5. no personal contact information.......telephone number, email addys.......stuff like that
6. No plagerism

Isnt it interesting I could come up with what i don't want first......hmmmm.......need to do some work on that one lol

Blogs should be thoughts, ideas, views, beliefs, stories,

In my opinion a blog and a forum are not that far apart, yet a blog usually longer in content, can ask more than one question, and i think that sometimes people are just more comfortable in blogs and some in forums.
I posted a joke that probably should have been in the forums and I never thought about it (cause i am old and set in my ways and on other sites would have posted in blogs-btw if you want me to redo that in the forums and delete it-let me know not a problem)

I personally like to have all my blogs left on, I had over 400 on the other site....and i did that a lot because new people like to go in and read old blogs of people they find they enjoy reading their writing........I also did it cause I like most people that write blogs is an attention whore  hey im not saying anything that isnt true...... :rotfl: but also had it to go back and see what I had wrote if i was misquoted on something......you know the CYOA thing lol.

When you go to put a comment on someones blog a box comes up on the side telling about the author and the blogs they have on here..........I think leaving the blogs on will get ppl to go back and read blogs that were missed before.

You do what you want to tho D-1, I may be old and set in my ways.........but i can learn to adjust..... :rotfl:

I just appreciate you having a great website here.......where we can blog........and that you are available to answer questions and take care of problems.

I would not have commentary decide if a blog is too "old".

I agree with Ewe in that if space allows and no other problems then leave it. I like to view a body of work.

BUT if you can't keep 'em all because of space requirements, then I say just let time take care of that alone, then if it's a really really popular blog it can be reposted by the Author if he/she chooses to.

Making them commentary depended will diminish the value of the commentary, people will comment just to keep the blog "alive" and that IS too much like a thread.

Ok I do have some space limits on my host and I will inform people before I do anything anyway. I guess really I'm looking for the fine line that is blog content and forum content. I don't mind letting the blogs build up personally it's only hell on me for backing/restoring the DB :)

But like you said Ewe.... should a joke be a bloq entry... my opinion no. But a statement on soldiers being treated etc... yes. Granted all this stuff can be talked about in the forums as well I just think of blogs as more concentrated topics and such but maybe I am set in my ways as well :)

I'm just trying to get a feel for what the community thinks so I can let the moderators know and so I know.

1. ones that are delibertly posted to cause a fight
2. scamming or advertisements for a different website
3. wanna fucks/or this is what i am looking for
4. blog that targets a member in a negative way
5. no personal contact information.......telephone number, email addys.......stuff like that
6. No plagerism

1. This is covered in the rules
2. Cover in the rules but may be authorized for one blog as long as they talk with me and they help promote this site too.
3. There is a 'Wanna Hookup' thread in the adult area that is what it is for.
4. Covered in rules
5. I don't mind that much because it doesn't impact me. But personal information should only passed via PM
6. Copying someones work and saying it is your own is just bad. But copying content from websites or whatever is allowed as long as you post a link back to where you got the info from.

Thanks for the input.... trying to build a nice community here so I value the input.

Like Ewe said we'll try to follow...

To me blogs are like little verbal works of art. I try to write funny stories or poems or make screwey analogies that make you, the reader, think to try and figure out what i'm talking about... Don't know where that kind of stuff SHOULD go... I'll be putting it in Blog format. If you think it should be somewhere else that will be cool....

I usually don't know exactly where a blog is going as i mostly write off the very top of my head with exceedingly little planning.

I accidentally posted a blog twice. Is there any way to delete one of them? I've tried to figure it out on my own and have had no luck....
