This examines the calories, fat, saturated fat and sodium content of the popular breakfast bread products found on the shelves of the Bread Aisle at the supermarket. If what you purchase is not listed, before placing it into your cart, check out its calorie, fat, saturated fat, sugar, and sodium content.

According to Men's Health, the following are breads that taste good and are good for you because of their low calorie, fat, saturated fat, sodium, and sugar content.

Thomas' 100% Whole Wheat English Muffin
Calories 120

Saturated Fat 0 g
Sodium 90 mg

One English muffin--two halves--has half as many calories as two slices of bread. And whole grain foods keep insulin levels low, so you're less likely to store fat.

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, when people on low-fat diets replaced just 10 percent of their carbohydrate intake with protein, they decreased their blood pressure, triglycerides, and LDL (bad) cholesterol--reducing heart disease risk by 13 percent. That's the equivalent of trading 60 grams (g) of carbohydrates--about the amount in one bagel--for two servings of lean meat.
